Well, I've just about recovered from clearing up after the Golden Week Gathering at The Greenhouse. All those people hanging out and making music on the lawn seem to have encouraged the grass and other little green things to put on a burst of speed, so now gardening has become something requiring an hour or more per day. With this beautiful weather, though, it's great to wake up in the morning, make the first cup of coffee and perhaps a pancake, and to go sit out in the morning sun for breakfast, while looking around for what needs to be done.
ようやくゴ－ルデンウィ－クの集いの後片付けから復帰。大勢の人々が庭の芝生の上で過ごし音楽を創ったりしたおかげか草やらその他の小さな緑の生命が勢いづいたかの様で、ここのところ一日一時間はガーデニングに費やす様。しかしこの美しい天気だと朝起きて朝一番のコーヒーともしくはパンケーキを作り表に出て何をせねばならぬかと見回しながら朝日の中で朝食をとるのは最高だ。
This year, the Golden Week Gathering went on longer than previously, but it never got boring or stressful. Many musicians came, and every night there was a different combination of players and DJs. Throughout almost the entire party, Shen Flindell was present with his tablas, and once again demonstrated his versatility, not only performing exciting solos, but accompanying everyone from instrumentalists to DJs, as well as managing the live P.A. and mixing desk. Thanks to Shen, Taro Terahara was present, and with his bansuri took the listeners on some truly ethereal flights Tim Hoffman again astonished us all with his playing of Indian ragas on the koto, making it clear why even Ravi Shankar told him that the koto is indeed even more suited for ragas than the sitar. Shanti's focused and contemplative playing of his wide range of ethnic instruments, Momi's didgeridoo, and L'Mana's vocal, guitar and electronic duets extended the contemplative mood throughout the whole event.
今年のゴールデンウィークの集いは前年にくらべて長く引き続いたが一度も退屈だったり大変だったりする事はなかった。多くのミュージシャンが来て下さり毎晩違う演奏者とＤＪの組み合わせになった。パ－ティ－中ほとんどずっとシェン・フリンデルはタブラと共におり、再び彼の柔軟性を発揮し豪快なソロを演奏するのみならず他の楽器演奏者からＤＪまでの皆に伴奏したうえにライブPAとミクシィングデスクも担当してくれた。
シェンのお陰で寺原太郎さんも列席して下さり彼のバンスーリは聴くものを幽体飛行へと導いた。ティム・ホフマンは琴によるインドのラーガを奏で再び皆を感歎させ、彼がラビ・シャンカールにさえも琴の方がシタール以上にラーガに相応しいと言わしめた理由を明確にした。シャンティーの幅広い民族楽器によるツボをおさえた思索的な演奏、モミのディジリドゥー、L'Manaのボーカル、ギターとエレクトロニックデュエットはイベント中ずっと思索的なムードを長引かせてくれた。
The meals that were served seem to have been appreciated--either that or everybody was very convincingly polite, which is almost as pleasing for the cooks. I'd like to offer special thanks to the hard-working and patient ladies without whom I could hardly have kept the kitchen going without stress, especially Zlatina, Noa, Orie, Satori and Naoko. And indeed, thanks to the many guests who without being asked came into the kitchen after every meal and washed the dishes.
提供された食事も好評の様で、もしくは皆徹底的に礼儀正しかったのか、どちらにせよ料理人にとっては快い事だった。辛抱強く一生懸命働いてくれた女性群、得にズラティナ、ノア、オリエ、サトリとナオコにお礼申しあげます。そして頼まれずとも毎食後台所に来て皿洗いをして下さった
ゲストの皆さんもありがとうごさいました。
This was the first party we have done that was publicised primarily through Mixi, and it showed how in many ways this may be the best way to promote a small party. Since everyone who came knew someone else who either came or was somehow personally connected, nobody seemed to feel alone or out of place, and the atmosphere was therefore relaxed and trusting.
今回はミクシィを主に宣伝した初めてのパーティーであり結果的に小パーティーを主催するには最適の方法だと分かった。来た人皆が他の来た人の知人だったりもしくは個人的繋がりがあったおかげで誰も独りだったり居心地が悪そうな人はおらずリラックスした信頼感のある雰囲気であった。
